Sausages across our countries

About the project

Sausage is type of food which is very popular in countries across Europe. Pupils will investigate and try them. They will learn about different European cuisines and customs.
They will also become familiar with ICT tools offered for calculating calorific values of food.

Aims

Pupils will find out what kind of sausages are specific for different parts of participated countries. They will describe their calorific value, some physical properties and write how to prepare and serve it. Schools will ensure that at least one type of sausage sent to other schools and take care to assess the sausage other countries.

Work process

We will follow this process:

Investigate different types of sausages in your country.
Produce a Picasa photo album for your country (using the tool embedded in the child page of the Wiki)
Each school to create a Google track with the geographical position of their school with a picture of the sausages from your country
Look at the Picasa albums of the other countries and discuss whether you have similar sausages in your country.
For the sausages of your country measure the length, diameter and weight. - add these measurements to the prepared spreadsheet in the wiki.
Find out the ingredients of one sausage from another country as indicated on the Wiki - list the ingredients in the wiki child page.
Make a video of the preparation, cooking and serving of one type of sausage from your own country. Put the video in the wiki and describe the process in English
Explore the calorific value of a typical sausage using the www.twofoods.com Put this information in the preprepared Wiki.
One student from each country will be responsible for creating the www.Infogr.am to chart the calorific value of each type of sausage shown in www.twofoods.com
Choose one type of sausage from your country and send to all partner schools with details of how to prepare, cook and serve.
The receiving schools will prepare the sausages for a tasting contest.. Choose 30 students and undertake a 'tasting' test. (use the google doc poll - prepared by the selected pupils from each country)
Create a video showing three or four students opinions of the sausages they have tasted. Upload these to the Wiki.
Feedback the Poll results in a live video conference. Poll results from all countries will decide the 'winning sausage'

Expected results

Pupils will get knowledge about food - sausages in other European countries. They will become familiar with ICT tools offered for calculating calorific values of food. They will also learn about different European cuisines and customs.
This idea comes from eTwinning project workshop at Future Classroom Lab. Brussels 10-11/12/2012. How to put a sausage in the curriculum, using ICT tools?
